HEARTWORM, FLEAS, TICKS & MORE

WHY YEAR-ROUND PARASITE PREVENTION MATTERS: THE DETAILS YOU NEED

We would like all of our patients to be protected from Ticks, Fleas, Heartworm, Roundworms, Tapeworms, Ear Mites, Mange, and other parasites:

  1. Ticks carry diseases, such as Lyme diseaseAnaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis, and are active whenever temperatures rise above freezing.  Unfortunately, we are now seeing ticks on our patients twelve months of the year.
  2. Heartworm disease, a mosquito borne infection caused by Dirofilaria immitis, requires prevention from June to November.
  3. Accordingly, we recommend Nexgard Spectra as a Tick and Heartworm prevention for the months of June to November andNexgard alone as a tick prevention from Dec to May.
  4. If you think your dog might hunt mice, rabbits, or other small mammals then he/she may be at risk of the new ‘fox tapeworm’, Echinococcus multilocularis, that has potentially serious health consequences for humans.  For these patients we recommend Nexgard as a Tick prevention, and Interceptor Plus for the prevention of Tapeworm, Heartworm, and a number of other Intestinal Parasites.
  5. We routinely test blood for Heartworm and other tick borne diseases between February 1 – July 31.
  6. For our patients 5 years or older we offer Wellness testing. These blood tests allow us to pick up early signs of disease when more can be done to improve health and longevity, much the same as yearly blood testing does for people.

Please call our office for more information. Our veterinary team will work with you to protect your pets from these parasites and more.

CONSIDERING AN ONLINE PHARMACY FOR YOUR PET’S PARASITE PREVENTION? HERE ARE A FEW KEY BENEFITS OF ORDERING WITH US:

  • Competitive Pricing after all fees are included.  Online pharmacies typically charge fees of between $20 – 35 for a combination of dispensing and shipping, and our prescribing fee* is $25.

*Every prescription is reviewed and recorded by one of our veterinarians as required to comply with our governing body’s regulations.

  • Unlimited support from our veterinary team for any questions or concerns relating to the prescribed medication.  Online pharmacies have little or no knowledge of canine and feline specific pharmacology, and offer no support.
  • Quality control of products in transit. A typical online pharmacy warning: “By ordering this product you acknowledge that there are risks the product may become overheated, and that we are unable to refund/send replacements for any overheated product.”
  • Faster order filling. With the exception of special compounded medications we fill all orders within 24 hours and usually the same day. Online pharmacies use Canada Post for delivery and currently have combined processing and delivery times of 1-2 weeks.
  • Peace of mind knowing your pet’s medical care remains within the clinic team who knows them best.
  • Support of a local second-generation family-owned hospital and employer. Thank you!

We’re always here to help and happy to discuss any questions you may have.
