Meet Our Team
Dr. McLean began his career at MacKay’s Animal Hospital in 1983. He grew up in Alberta and later moved to Ontario, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Queen’s University, followed by his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. In his final year at the OVC, he won the K-W Kennel Club Award for proficiency in small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. McLean maintains a lifelong passion for surgery, medicine, and dentistry.
Dr. McLean is very proud to now be working with his son, Dr. William McLean, who graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2019.
When he is not in the office, Dr. McLean enjoys spending time with his family and their Pot Hound Poppy, a rescue dog from Trinidad. He and his family maintain a small tree farm near Collingwood.
Dr. Candace Waters joined the MacKay's team in the fall of 2015. Dr. Waters completed a BSc in Zoology before entering the Ontario Veterinary College, graduating in 2002. She has a special interest in dentistry and surgery. When she's not practicing veterinary medicine Dr. Waters enjoys biking, reading and camping with her husband and daughter and is a proud pet parent to Scout the Labradoodle, three cats (Lily, Simon, and Lulu), and a pet rat, Lil’ Chef.
Dr. Michelle Tome joined MacKay’s in February of 2015. She has a BSc in biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2005. Before coming to MacKay’s Dr. Tome worked in clinics in Mississauga and Toronto, as well as Emergency clinics in London and Burlington. She has a special interest in internal medicine and critical care. Dr. Tome is an accomplished equestrian and has ridden for most of her life. She rode hunter/jumper on both the Trillium and A circuit in her earlier life. She and her husband and their three children share their house with pets: Marshall, a rambunctious Labradoodle, and five cats, Dylan, Barak, Jackson, Seashell and Oyster. When she is not at work Dr. Tome can be found skiing, swimming or gardening.
We are very excited that Dr. Will McLean has joined his father, Dr. Ian McLean at the clinic. Will is a graduate of the University of Guelph in Biomedical Sciences and in 2019 he graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College. In his final year Will received an award for excellence in dermatology, the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology Prize. When Will is not at the clinic he enjoys fishing, skiing, travelling and reading. William is devoted to the family dog, Hazel, a ‘Pot Hound’ rescue dog from Trinidad.
